For the love of God, please help me with Adobe Premier Elements!
Posted by johnONE on September 14th, 2006

I've downloaded a demo version of Adobe Premier Elements 2 to have a play
around with before I decide to purchase. I have figured out most stuff, but
what I just cannot figure out is how to cut FRAMES from a clip. As an
example of what I want, check out this screenshot
http://shivs.12freeukisp.co.uk/ap.jpg

As an example I've traced a red box around the portion of the frames in the
clip that I want to "select" to delete (20 - 22 seconds in), so I wand to
delete approx 2 seconds worth of frames from within the clip.

Premier's help seems to talk about CLIPS this and CLIPS that, but I don't
want to delete clips (I already know how to do that) I want to delete FRAMES
from within a clip, and do it accurately. This is starting to drive me
insane!

Please can someone explain to this desktop video newbie how to do it in easy
steps

Until someone who uses Elements shows up;

Most editing packages let you zoom in on the timeline
even to just showing just one frame per thumbnail. You
should be able to zoom to a point where there are, say
sixty thumbnails across the screen. Then scrub to the
first frame of the clip ( clips are made of frames ) that
you want to remove, set it as the start of your clip/selection.
Then if your video is PAL and 25 frames per second and
you want about two seconds that would mean you need
make and remove a clip of about 50 frames. So scrub to
that point and set the end of your clip/selection.

Luck;
Ken

I don't use Elements, but I do work with Premiere Pro. Try this:

I see that there is what appears to be the Razor Tool on the left top of the
Timeline tab (looks like a razor blade). Click on that. Apply the Razor
Tool to the left of the first frame that you want to delete (apply by left
clicking where you want to apply the razor). Apply the Razor Tool to the
right of the last frame that you want to delete. Go back to the Timeline
tab and select the Select Tool. Right click on the section of frames that
you just razored.

Premiere has a "ripple delete" option, which will remove the selected frames
and move everything to the left to fill the gap. If Elements doesn't have
this, just choose delete and then move manually.

The Razor Tool divides a clip at whatever point you select. You need to
create a small clip containing only the frames you want to delete.

I'm not at my production computer at this moment but I've had to export
still frames in Premiere Pro for a few projects. If I remember
correctly, move to the frame you want in the timeline (as in your
screenshot above). Click on File, Export, and select "frame". Save it
to your desktop or video folder, and it should automatically add it to
your media bin as an image file.
