- Nero Express 6 DVD-Video files build DVD-video non-compliant discs every time
- Posted by Steph on August 18th, 2006
What is this WinXP Nero Express 6 error trying to tell me?
"You have added DVD-video content to a compilation type that will not
result in a DVD-video compliant disc. To create disc playable in standalone
DVD-video players please use the DVD-video compilation type"
I bought a new laptop that came with NERO Burning ROM, Nero Express, Nero
BackItUp, etc. pre-installed along with a dual-layer DVD burner. All I'm
trying to do is back up, as a DATA DVD, a simple DVDShrink 3.2 ripped DVD.
I bring up Nero Express 6 and slide the VIDEO_TS folder over and press the
burn button, but, I always get this Nero warning (or is an error?):
"You have added DVD-video content to a compilation type that will not
result in a DVD-video compliant disc. To create disc playable in standalone
DVD-video players please use the DVD-video compilation type"
The resulting DVD disc plays fine in my computer.
Can you tell me if I can just ignore this warning (what is it trying to
tell me)? What do I need to do to get rid of this warning or error?

I actually do not have a so-called stand-alone DVD player. All I have is
the the dual-layer DVD player in the laptop that I burned the VIDEO_TS
directory on.
I'm worried that there is something important Nero Express 6 is trying to
tell me but I don't know what it is.
Here is EXACTLY how I burn the VIDEO_TS directory as a DATA DVD:
1. I start up Nero StartSmart 6 by clicking on the link pointing to
"C:\Program Files\Ahead\Nero StartSmart\NeroStartSmart.exe"
2. I press on the Nero StartSmart 6 icon "DVD-Video Files"
3. I slide the "VIDEO_TS" folder onto the files area
4. Immediately, I get the "Nero Express" error:
You ahve added DVD-Video content to a compilation type that
will not result in a DVD-Video compliant disc. To create discs
playable in standalone DVD-Video players, please use the
DVD-Video compilation type.
That would be fine if I could just fine WHERE the "DVD-Video compilation
type" is located. Do you know where they hide the DVD-Video compilation
type settings in Nero Express 6?
I don't know why, but I don't get any error when I use this method:
1. I start up Nero Express 6 by clicking on the link pointing to
"C:\Program Files\Ahead\Nero\nero.exe" /w
2. I choose the Nero StartSmart 6 category of "Data"
3. I choose the Nero StartSmart 6 task of "Make Data DVD"
(which says to "Open with Nero Express")
3. I slide the "VIDEO_TS" folder onto the files area
4. Why doesn't this give the same error?
Does any of this make sense to you experts?
Why would I get the error in Nero StartSmart (which calls Nero Express) but
not in Nero Express? Is it me or is it that Nero StartSmart is too smart
for it's own good?
Please tell me what is going on? I do not understand this at all!

Hi Martin,
Your explanation is about the best there is as it seems like almost
everyone gets this error from Nero when trying to burn a simple DVD Shrink
"VIDEO_TS" directory in a dual-layer DVD burner:
"You have added DVD-video content to a compilation type that will not
result in a DVD-video compliant disc. To create disc playable in standalone
DVD-video players please use the DVD-video compilation type"
Here are just some of the articles describing the problem:
http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=78987
http://www.dvd-guides.com/content/view/40/59/
http://members.dodo.net.au/~jimmalenko/NeroExpress.htm
http://www.videohelp.com/forum/archive/t272453.html
http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=75455
etc.
I am not finished researching this, but, it seems nobody really knows
what's going on with Nero when it gives this error ... so your guess is as
good or better than anyone elses.
I just wish I understood WHAT Nero is trying to tell me to do and I'd just
do it if I knew what it wanted me to actually do!

I just checked and I'm using Nero version 6.6.1.4 so I tried the newer Nero
NRC PROFILE file at http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=78987 which
is labeled "Profile for Nero 6.0.0.19 and up!" located at:
http://upload.cdfreaks.com/gf/BLANK%...RO%2060019.nrc
But, I _still_ get the Nero error:
"You have added DVD-video content to a compilation type that
will not result in a DVD-video compliant disc. To create disc
playable in standalone DVD-video players please use the
DVD-video compilation type"
OK. I'd be perfectly happy to comply with Nero's request.
Precisely WHERE IS this "DVD-Video compilation Type" setting in Nero
6.6.1.0?
Here is _exactly_ what I do:
a) I use DVDFab Decrypter 2.9.8.3 to rip all DVD files to the hard disk
b) I use FixVTS 1.403 to clean up the entire disk of VOB files
c) I use DVD Shrink 3.2 Re-Author to fit single-layer DVD discs
This creates the VIDEO_TS directory.
a) I double-click on "BLANK DVD NERO 60019.nrc" obtained from:
http://upload.cdfreaks.com/gf/BLANK%...RO%2060019.nrc
b) This starts up Nero Burning ROM 6 (version 6.6.1.4)
c) I select all the files in the VIDEO_TS directory on the right
d) And I slide them over to the compilation window on the left
Bam! I immediately get the NERO Burning ROM error:
"You have added DVD-video content to a compilation type that
will not result in a DVD-video compliant disc. To create disc
playable in standalone DVD-video players please use the
DVD-video compilation type"
I go to Nero Burning ROM 6.6.1.4 "File" "Compilation Properties".
This says only "DVD-ROM (UDF/ISO)".
In the UDF tab of that "DVD-ROM (UDF/ISO)" Compilation Properties window, I
have the Options set to "Automatic settings (recommended)".
Now, this is all probably wrong!
I just can't find the Nero 6.6.1.4 setting for enabling the "DVD-video
compilation type".
Where is that setting to enable the Nero 6.6.1.4 "DVD-video compilation
type"?

I must also not have a clue, Susan.
Once we rip the VIDEO_TS directory to our hard disks, it is data isn't it?
It may be video data, but it's data. Just like pictures are data. They may
be photographs. But they are just data.
I burn my ripped DVDs all the time as data but I don't use nero.
I would like if someone explained to me precisely why a VIDEO_TS directory
isn't data and why my burning program builds perfectly fine DVD disks when
I burn the VIDEO_TS as data???

Kathi, you're 100% correct. Any infomation on a DVD is just data and can be
treated as such. I burn DVDs as data discs (using RecordNow) all the time.
Once the VIDEO_TS folder is on your hard drive, doing a data DVD copy just
makes sense, Nero's warnings to the contrary.
