Premiere Pro 2.0 Audio Sync in Timeline
Posted by Geoff on August 26th, 2006

I have a problem that is mentioned in the Adobe boards, but there is no
answer offered that makes sense to me. I have captured HD video from
PP2.0 from a JVC HDGY100U. The video plays fine in Media Player and
VLC. When I import it into PP2.0 and play it (in the source window or
in the timeline) the audio slowly drifts out of sync over the course of
an hour. I would like to understand why this happens. Obviously clients
like VLC are making a decision about the sync of the A/V that Premiere
is not making.

I have heard answers about shorter capture clips, which is fine, but
not really acceptable. Simple clients have no trouble synchronizing,
why does PP2.0? If I can honestly identify the problem, I can put
energy into finding the solution, even if it means writing some
software.

Thanks,

Geoff

This is sometimes a problem with mpg files, but usually not HD mpg
files. Are you capturing upper field first? This is standard with HD,
but the opposite of most SD mpg.

Next, try this. Go on the timeline and cut the clip every 2 minutes.
Just a simple cut, no other editing. Then try playing. I've done this
with SD and it has worked. View in the Preview window.

I now video HD and edit with Ulead Media Studio Pro, so I can't help
you with PP.
