Is there an easy way to prevent QuickTime video files embedded on a
web page from being downloaded by the user?

No. And if someone tells you otherwise, they're lying.

You can try, but it can always be captured again with a screen-capture
program (incl audio).

I'm thinkin' for the average Joe. I figure if folks want something
bad enough, they'll find a way. But is there a realtively easy way to
prevent the average Joe from simply downloading the QuickTime file to
their hard drive? Like perhaps putting the page together in Flash?

True. Host it on a streaming server then.

When I first read your question, I was thinking from the POV of the
browser. And in that case, yes you can turn off the automatic play
function, at least in Internet Explorer and likely in other browsers.

But then I thought you must be speaking from the POV of the
server, in which case, there is no simple/easy way.

yes.. re-encode them as flv files. Include your own player like Wimpy on
your site.

Aren't there apps out there now that will capture FLV?

Yes, the Youtube capture things. But you can always use Snagit or similar.
