- Puzzling speed issue
- Posted by Terry Pinnell on March 5th, 2007
I've been scratching my head over the following all weekend. I've
emailed Codejam too, but maybe someone here can suggest a possible
explanation please.
I made an AVI file from a screen capture with a program called
CamStudio. In all my other programs (VirtualDub, WMP, WMP Classic,
PowerDVD, etc), this plays correctly, i.e. reproducing the capture. It
lasts about 5 seconds, during which time a path on a map is drawn.
But if I import it into MemoriesOnTV and play it there, the path
appears at about *double speed*. Yet the whole clip is still 5
seconds, with the remainder just showing the path in its final state
for a further 2.5 seconds.
Hope all that makes sense. I could temporarily upload the 5 MB test
file if required.
I just can't see how the actual *content* of a clip could apparently
be changed by a program in this way!

what framerate did you use in CamStudio?

I tried several, all with similar results. The last setting was made
with Auto Adjust, and is showing:
Capture Frames Every 40 milliseconds
Playback Rate 25 frames/second
The strange thing is that the *whole* clip is the right length, but
only in MoTV does the animated piece get played twice as fast.

I don't pretend to know how "Memories on TV" works, but
you could try adding some "traveling music" to the clip. It may
help with the playback timing. Some programs take part of
their timing off the audio, if it is there.
Luck;

Thanks, I'll give that a try.
Codejam reproduced the problem with the file but so far has them
stumped. Presumably something to do with the Camstudio codec. Pity, as
I find Camstudio a useful capture program.
