When you say load, is this loading any object at all? Even those not
including scripting? What about if you make a new object - does it die
immediately, does it die if you try to add a script?
The axhost shouldn't be called unless it is a scripted object . . . or I
guess unless something has messed up with scripting in general. It might
be worth installing this file to check that these are in order:

Cancelled your post as it was a binary in a non-binaries group. For the
developers - the information on the dialog was that desktopx had crashed
in dxaxhost.dll, at offset 2338d. This looks to be somewhere just before
a call to StringFromCLSID in a short function involving the string
"Control".
