- Re: Firewire cards with header pins?

I just bought a firewire card that had 3 external and 1 internal port. You
could use the internal port to run wires to the front of the case. I
purchased it at www.buyaib.com for $13.00 including shipping. It came with
a firewire cable and ulead VideoStudio dv version 5.0 software. Good luck

I see that now at http://store.yahoo.com/buyaib/firpcito3por.html
Looks like the internal port is a plug-in port just like the external one.
I wonder how one would connect that internal port to the port built into the
front of PC tower cases. I was expecting just header pins on the firewire
card.
Most case manufacturers supply a cable that plugs into pins on the
motherboards or internal PCI cards on one end and the connectors on the
front of their case.

I forgot, the internal port has header pins.

Hey Aloke,
I went through the same thing when I built my system, I bought a 6 ft. 1394
cable cut it in half and wired it to the wires going to the front of the
case and plugged it into my 1394 card, works great.
But I did have a lot of time on my hands back then.
I wouldn't bother with it now. I had found some 1394 wiring charts and used
that as a guide, it has to be wired in reverse so when you plug it in the
wire is on the opposite end, if you understand me.
It would be nice if some company just sold an adapter or a cable with pin
connectors on one end, but at that time they didn't.
The idea of using a hub is good also. I like plugging the cam right in
front, I use 2 computers and it makes it easy to unplug and plug into the
other for me.
