- Re: How many dropped frames are acceptable?

With many of the analog capture cards I used in the past, the card would
invariably drop a frame or so during dramatic changes in the video content. A
frame here and there is not going to be any problem at all. For me, dropping
frames during capture wasn't the main problem, dropping frames during playback
was more bothersome. When frames are dropped during playback, you don't get any
nice little warning or anything else -- the picture just gets herky-jerky.

No, why on earth would anybody do that???

Why? well obviously we aren't on the same page.
If it was a smooth transition, like if you paused the tape and then started
somewhere else, you won't have any dropped frames, no need to edit.
If you removed the tape then re-inserted it, and fast forwarded a bit, where
you had blank time code on the tape, this is what I meant would cause
dropped frames.
This is what you would edit out, Max.
Why on earth would you leave dead silence in a finished production, even on
a Mac?
Get it now?

When have we EVER been? In fact, even though I usually save this for

Well, assuming I was using a DV camera and actually SHOOTING material,
I wouldn't be stupid enough to FAST FORWARD the fucking tape between
scenes. Besides, I fail to see why a DV-to-computer transfer would
drop ANY frames. Furthermore, any frames dropped at THAT point would
be useless. Still, who would be ignorant enough to FAST FORWARD the
tape???
Fuck you.
Fuck you.
In case you haven't noticed, moron, we're talking about ANALOG capture
cards! Maybe YOU would be stupid enough to plug a DV camcorder into an
analog adapter, and THEN into your computer, but most of us would
simply use Firewire or (ugh) USB.
I think the gist of the OP's problem is that analog video (VHS,
probably) is either not stable enough for their card, or their system
isn't up to capturing video reliably. I know it's painful for you to
admit that PCs have any faults, but with the rampant defrag issues
involved, the filesystem is not really the best for continuous video
capture.

digital or analog captured thru a advc-100, I remember reading that
somewhere.
I thought you were hospitalized last week, about 20 posts went by without
you replying with the normal "FUCK YOU", LOL
Glad your still around, Max...
Even crap serves a purpose, so this group just wouldn't be as amusing
without you.
