Did you watch the video test in frame by frame? Every 3rd or 4th frame of
the Tmpg video is very noisy, and I can now notice it during normal playback
speed. The MC codec did not have this problem. Also, fast moving scenes
rendered much better with the MC encoder. I did tests at 4, 6 and 8 mbps.
Handheld home video tends to have alot of motion, so this was a big factor
in my decision of what encoder to use.

Now, when you're talking CQ mode, something that I have yet to play with, I
have a feeling that things might be different. Myself, using Vegas + DVDA,
I can set markers on the timeline and when rendered, they are read as
chapter points by DVDA. That's the easiest way to set chapter points I've
ever seen.

By my measurements, TMPGEnc allows the B frames to have a *much* worse
SNR than the I and P frames in all encoding modes. An SNR graph of a
video from TMPGEnc is very bumpy compared to MainConcept (the only
other encoder I've spent a signficant amount of time with).

I agree if you insert "interlaced video" into that sentence--MC seems to
handle interlaced video noticably better.
