Recommendation for simple animation
Posted by Brian Siano on February 19th, 2007

I'd like to make a simple animation for an intro to some short
lab-technique videos I'm doing. I don't want to do anything special--
vague blue shapes in a blue background, something
generically-science-y-- but I'd like to know what animation software can
export a decent AVI for use with Adobe Premiere Pro.

Any recommendations?

Yes -- Adobe Premiere Pro. Its motion, keying, and key-framable matte tools
are more than sufficient to do the two dimensional animation that you've
described. This was composited completely within in Premiere Pro:

as was the opening sequencer for this (except for the 3D letters, which were
down in Ulead Cool 3D Edit):

Titler is not a good choice. It's not key-frameable, so you won't be
able to animate it.

Use the motion controls on the effects tab in combination with one of
the keyers (chroma, color or green screen). Key frame the motion to
get animation. The keyers will let you layer video on top of each
other (compositing).
