Recording a computers output to a DVD-R

I am trying to record what my monitor displays through a server boot
up process. I would like to just have the feed to the monitor
recorded so that we can use it for training (ugly boot process). What
would be the easiest way to record something like this so that I can:

1. Record all of the boot process
2. Have a high enough resolution to read the text
3. Not effect the performance of the server itself by recording this
process

NOTE: This is for video only.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

If your videocard has a composite out for feeding to a TV monitor you could
use a bit of old technology - the VCR!!!
