I have a video strip that I need to send off, preferably edited. For
that purpose I bought Video Edit Magic. The strip is avi and I used
Roxio and my digital video camera to take it off an analog tape.
There was some material that I did not want and I cut that using the
Roxio. As the material was in the middle, I ended up with 2 avi files
where I only wanted one. There seemed to be no way to combine these
except by writing a DVD.
That is the reason that I bought the editor. I can delete the first
part and the last and also the one in the middle and everything look
sweet until I come to save it.
I asked the makes for guidance and they told me to 'make a film' and
there was a choice of avi, which is wanted by the destination. This
destination also did not want any lossy saving and I have from a 500MB
avi come up with a 3,3GB avi.
Ok - it works but so does the unedited 500MB. Can somebody explain to
a novice why it is that when you cut aproximately 100 MB of a strip,
you end up with 3.3GB. It seems to defy all logic.
For your information, my stats are:
Win 2000, Pentium 4 2.4 Ghz
1 Gb memory,ADSL
80+200 GB of disc space,Oly C2100 & Optio S
Burners CD and DVD (Sony make)

Try using different software. There is no good reason why you cannot cut out
sections of a video file and rejoin them. Ulead VideoStudio 7 is available
as a trial version. It will do the job nicely.

Output the new file using the exact settings of the original captured video.
If you don't want loss, look for a choice of "No Recompression" or uncheck
anything that says "Recompress". If your output settings match your input
settings you should not end up with a 3+GB file.
