- Sonic MyDVD Menu/Chapter Titles?
- Posted by John Q. Public on January 22nd, 2005
Hello -
I'm trying to do something simple in MyDVD but for some reason am not
getting the results I expected. I have tried this in both 6.0 and
6.1, with the same result.
I have a single mpg file that I'm creating a DVD out of. I broke it
into chapters. When i go to the secondary menu in the editor to title
the chapters, here's what happens:
1) The menu title automatically becomes the title of chapter 1.
2) Chapter 1's title automatically becomes the menu title.
I just want the menu title and chapter titles to be separate - not
sure why it assumes I want the menu title and first chapter title to
be the same. I can't find a way around this.
Also, it inserts the word "Chapter" in each chapter title, and the
word "Chapters" in the menu title. I don't want this either.
I've searched Sonic's knowledge base and Google but nobody else seems
to be complaining about this.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

That is because most anyone in video editing have trashed canned Sonic
MyDVD and move on to a decent editing program. Your question should
be "what program can I replace MyDVD with".

Hey thanks for the insightful answer! Actually I use MyDVD because I
like it's fit-to-dvd feature, which I haven't seen elsewhere.
Anybody have a real answer?

I like that feature too.
Unfortunately, as you have discovered, MyDVD doesn't always do what
you want it to do. I've experienced other little "features" that have
made the program maddening to try to use. And Sonic's support is piss
poor to be charitable about it. It really is bad. Nonexistant.
As flip as you think the previous poster might have been, he or she
definitely has a valid point. I've been burned on several different
versions of MyDVD. I kept thinking SURELY they have it right THIS
time... NOT.

Thank you for the sensible reply. Can you recommend similar software
that actually works? I'm mainly looking for a fit-to-dvd feature
similar to what MyDVD has. I've been using Pinnacle Studio 9 but
can't find such a feature and always end up struggling to fit things
on a dvd.
Thanks again.

I believe that if you single click on the title it generates, you will
be able to enter any title you like. Have you tried that by any chance?

Yes but it only works correctly on the main menu. On submenus the
menu title is always the same as the first chapter. It also appends
the word "menu" to it, even though I don't want that, but i can't get
rid of it. Otherwise I'm very happy with MyDVD regardless of what
others say.
Thanks

OK. I see my mistake. I was thinking of chapter as opposed to
sub-menus.
I haven't used those yet. I just got MyDVD and am learning. I'm
pretty
pleased with it so far. I've seen it bashed pretty heavily, but
release 6
seems to work fine for me.

I'm not sure my previous post will show up, but I re-read your original
post,
and you were talking about chapters. I went in and did what you
described
and got the same results in regards to the first chpater having the
same
name as the main title. Sorry for my confusion.

....welcome to the frustrating world of MyDVD... are you having any
luck with "technical support?"
Yes, version 6 works. Right up the point where you find some simple
little nit shit thing you want to do and suddenly find it doesn't work
quite the way you want it to.

Good point, Blue. I posted a question 10 days ago and it hasn't been
answered (except for the canned response).
I just basically asked if there were a 6.02 release which I saw
reference to on their site. The only reason I chose
MyDVD in the first place was that it had Dolby support at a price I
thought was resonable. If I want to spend $100 or
less, what would be my best option?

I wish I knew!

I am using Sonic MyDVD Studio v5 and I am considering upgrading to v6.
If I should not waste my time with it then what DVD authoring software
should I invest it?
