Sony Vegas 6.0 problem
Posted by srr113@hotmail.com on November 29th, 2006

I just installed Sony Vegas 6.0 on a new computer that I am dedicating
to my digital media needs. The load went fine and it appears to be
operating properly, for the most part. I've started to assemble a
collection of stills, but want to insert an occasional video. The
stills queue up normally. When I try to add video (AVI format from my
Canon dig cam), all that appears to load is the audio portion of the
file. I've used this software on a different computer, but that never
happened. What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

Even though the file says it's an AVI, it uses a Motion JPEG (MJPEG) codec
so you need one of these on your machine to make it work (been there, done
that, bought the codec).
There are 2 different ones that I'd recommend.
One is from Mainconcept ($19) at
http://www.mainconcept.com/site/index.php?id=785
and the other is from Morgan Multimedia ($20) at
http://www.morgan-multimedia.com/technicalsV3.htm
BTW, http://www.blue7media.com/vegas/ is a great collection of all kinds of
Vegas links.

Thanks, Mike. I downloaded the CODEC. Now I'm up and running. I must
have had a CODEC on my old computer, which would explain why AVI worked
there but not on my new computer.

I sure do appreciate the advice.

Best Regards,

Mike
