Titles in Vegas 6.0

I have a logo I want to add as an overlay on a video I'm working on in
Vegas 6. The logo was originally on a white background. But I want
just the logo. So I imported the artwork into Paint Shop Pro and
selected everything I wanted to keep. I cut it and pasted as new
image. Now all that was showing was the artwork. The background then
shows up as a checker board. Usually that means (in my experience) the
non-selected portion is transparent. That is how I saved it. Anyway,
when I imported the image into my media collection and dragged it the
timeline, it had a white background.

Is there a way to show just the logo, without any background?

Thanks,

Smooth

What image format did you save it as?
The format has to support an alpha channel (such as PNG), otherwise it
won't work.
The other thing to try is to change the iamge properties once it's on
the timeline. Right-click the image, select Properties, then the Media
tab and change the Alpha channel to Straight (umatted), Premultiplied or
Premultiplied (dirty).

Thanks, Mike. I'm using JPG format. Not sure if that supports an alpha
channel or not. I check it out. Also, I'll check out the image
properties suggestions. I'll let you know how it turns out.

JPEG definitely does NOT support an alpha channel and, consequently,
none of the options I mentioned will work.
Since this is for Vegas, my recommendation is PNG as it does support it
and it's one of the preferred formats for Vegas.
I do this all the time and use PNGs a lot.

Mike, I tried PNG format for the logo and it works great! Sure glad
there are experts like you out there, because I was ready to pull my
hear out! What is the difference between straight, premultiplied and
premultiplied dirty?

Glad to have been of help :-)

As far as the difference between all of them, I had to resort to the
online help and here's what it says:

Alpha channel
Choose a setting from the drop-down list to change the alpha channel
information for the file.

If the alpha channel in an image is not detected, choose the correct
type of alpha channel from this drop-down list. If you're unsure, try
the Premultiplied setting first.

Undefined
Video provides no alpha channel information. This setting ignores any
alpha channel information in the file.

None
Video has no alpha channel or there is an alpha channel but it’s
completely opaque (solid).

Straight (unmatted)
Transparency information is maintained in only the alpha channel.
Alpha information must be applied to the RGB channels before compositing.

Premultiplied
The standard method of handling alpha information. Transparency
information is maintained in the alpha and RGB channels, and the image
is ready for compositing. No RGB component exceeds the alpha value.

Premultiplied (dirty)
Similar to Premultiplied, but RGB components may exceed the alpha.
This setting is used mainly for images created by 3D applications
involving compositing of 3D images over a non-solid color image background.
