I have a Formac Devideon DVD burner, and am using Mac OS X (Jaguar).
I can burn DVDs OK using Formac's own DVD software from movies I have
made in iMovie, but I don't seem to be able to view a burned video
beyond a certain length on my old Sony DVD player. On any player, I
don't seem to be able to select a specific time to go to on the video,
either, but on a computer, I can view all the movie I am burning. I
also don't seem to be able to get a variable bit rate, even though I
can change the bit rate to another constant one. There seems to be no
option to create chapters in the software, either.
Does anyone know the following (I have not had much luck getting the
information out of Roxio):
If I used Toast to burn the DVDs (and encode the iMovie output), I
assume I would be able to create chapters. Could it also do a
variable bit rate, and if so, how would I adjust the 'approximate' bit
rate it chose? Does it use Altivec to speed up the encoding process?
And can I change the encoding quality and let it take longer to encode
giving better quality without sacrificing the resulting size of disk
image? Can I encode anamorphic 16:9 video (that is what I get out of
my Sony camcorder, and Formac's software gives me the choice of 4:3
standard where the people look tall & thin, and anamorphic 16:9 where
they look normal, even though exactly the same number of lines and
picture data are encoded on the disk)? Can I make up multi-level
menus, including direct access to specific chapters? And how many
'links' can I put on one menu page? Is making up menu pages simple or
complex?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Nic
