- transcoding to dv using trv900
- Posted by Mr.T on December 12th, 2003
I have a trv900 cam and a capture card/editing SW that I've used for
all my dv tapes. I now would bring in analog stuff using the SVideo
cable. I understand that I can record the analog to dv tapes using the
cam, but that is a two step process - record to dv tape and then
capture from tape to my hard drive.
Also, the analog stuff is longer than 60 minutes, so then I would be
swapping tapes around a lot.
Is there a way to make the camera an "on-the-fly" transcoder? I tried
it out, and I can definately capture svideo to tape, but it seems at
that point that there is no 1394 output.

Read your Manual.
You have to change the DV>A/V setting in the Menu. Also, take the tape out
of the camera. With the correct setting, the Analog signal is trancoded in
the camera and produces a DV output.

I did a brain fart. I had just read that the Trv900 could do it, so I
had that on the mind and typed in "trv900". I have a trv9, which I
can't get it to work on. Thanks for the replies. The remote solution
sounded interesting, but at $80 for the remote, I think I'll just buy
some analog capture card.
