- transferring back to camcorder
- Posted by Sparky Mark on September 9th, 2003
Hi,
I have a Sony DCR-TRV 340e camcorder connected to my pc via firewire. I've
transferred lots of footage which I have edited and played about and want to
transfer it to tape.
Is it possible to transfer the video back onto the camcorder cassettes?
This would mean I could just plug the camcorder into the VCR and transfer it
to video cassette.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Typically you would use your editing program to transfer your footage back
to the camera.

This is my problem, I can't see how to do it. Vegas has the Print to DV
Tape feature, but that doesn't work. Apart from the start/stop button for
filming, there's no other record facility on the camera I can see.

What???? Open Vegas online help, and under index type "print". Follow the
directions given on "Print Video to DV Tape". Very easy.

(Sorry. Hit the send button too soon)
In your first post, you said you had a Sony DCR-TRV 340e camcorder. I
assume the "e" means European in which case the DV in feature may be
disabled. Just a thought.

I've managed to capture the tape from the camera using DV. Vegas even
controlled the device fine, stopping and starting the camera remotely.
Premiere 6.5 made a effort using the export to tape function. It sort of
controlled the camera, but then stopped again leaving a large black square
on the screen that I could only remove by changing the screen resolution.
The camera is not listed in the supported devices in the device control
settings.

I don't think that is the right option though. When selecting this option,
the option to use device control is disabled. (Which seems odd, because it
controlled the camera fine during capture). Using the manual option
involves setting the camera to record, but I don't see how to do this.

A quick search on Google indicates that this camcorder does not have DV-in
enabled and there are no widgets available to enable DV-in.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but at least you know not to waste any
more time on the impossible.

Cheers anyhow..

I still want to get this currently uncompressed 7.7Gb avi to vhs however....
I suppose it warrants a DVD-writer of sorts... Where's the wife's
credit-card...

Play it back fullscreen on a PC with a TV-out connector on the graphics
card. Connect the TV-out to the VHS VCR inputs.
Conversion to DVD-R would be much better quality though...

It will end up on VHS anyway.
