Vegas lite vs Element?
Posted by Pre-Meltdown on November 28th, 2007

Any opinions?

Another vendor carries both, similarly inexpensive, but vendor says from a
newbie pov I'll be much happier with Vegas--easier, more robust program, he
thinks.

He says that while the user base for vegas is not as wide as that for
element, Sony does a better job ito of support/materials, and that there are
substantial forums for vegas as well.

How about full Vegas vs. PPro?

I've used the full version of Vegas since version 1.0 so you know
where my vote lies :-)
The only potential drawback to Vegas Movie Studio (what you're calling
Vegas lite) is that it's restricted to 4 tracks of audio and 4 of
video.
I'm sure trial versions of each are available so I'd download them and
give each one a try.

It depends on what it is you want to do. I've been a PPro user for close to
a decade. I love it, I don't think the leraning curve is that steep, and
I'm amazed at what I can easily accomplish with it. If you only intend to
do casual editing, e.g. the occasional "family video" to distribute to the
grandparents, then it is probably overkill.

There are very active user forums run by Adobe that can provide
comprehensive answers to all sorts of questions and problems. I can't speak
to support directly from Adobe as I've never needed -- I doubt there is any
program as well documented as Premiere Pro. PPro has the advantage of tight
integration with Photoshop and Aftereffects, which is very helpful if you're
doing any elaborate titling, compositing, etc. PPro CS3 (the latest
version) comes bundled with Encore, a very competent DVD authoring program
that can also author BluRay high-def DVDs.
