What's up with .mov file in MyDVD
Posted by rb608 on October 28th, 2004

I have a fairly large video file, approx. 650MB, in .mov format. My
problem is in trying to record this as a DVD. I'm using the Sonic
MyDVD software (it came w/ the burner) that has done an adequate job
in the past with much larger .mpeg files.

The problem is this. I start with a completely blank project, and the
status indicates 4.3GB available on the disk. Peachy. I then import
the 650MB .mov file into the project, and the status now says I'm
about 473MB over capacity. What's up with that? Is this a
peculiarity of the .mov file or a shortcoming in the MyDVD software?
(Or something stupid that I'm doing wrong?)

Any help?

TIA,
Joe F.

This is not a direct answer but hopefully will be helpfull.

Unless you feed a Mpg2 file to Mydvd, it will have re-render your source
file into the proper format. I do not belive the Mydvd encoder is
particulary fast nor particulary great. For not alot of money (less than
$50) you can get an encoder that will do a much much quicker job with better
quality of converting that file to the Mpg2 format. Tmpgenc and Cinemacraft
are two that immediatly come to mind in that price range.
