I have a sony digital-8 camcorder that allows playback of my old
regular 8 tapes. Since the camcorder converts does this mean I can
use Studio DV to edit these or do I need Studio Deluxe and the
analog/digital combo?

I do not think this will work as it is not changing the signal, only
allowing you to view the images, but it is still analogue.

However, if your D8 has DV in/out it may well have Analogue in/out, which
means you can hook up old camorder or vcr to D8 camocorder and record onto
new digital tape to hook up to Pinnacle. I done this myself with my old VHSC
tapes.
