- Is WinDVD necessary to run WinDVR ? Whats the purpose of XPack ?

I would like to record TV clips with WinDVR and to display them with software other than WinDVD (With "D" at the end!)
e.g. with WinMediaPlayer or BSplayer.
Is it necessary to have WinDVD installed in order to run WinDVR successfully ?
Both are released from Intervideo company and bundled always together. So there might be a link between them
resp. common sources.
Additionally often an Intervideo software called XPack is added to the bundle. What's the purporse of that ?
