I was unable to add to the original thread but would like to thank
Libor Striz for the suggestion of using the CD Player setting. I am
new at this game and I didn't use the CD player configuration as I
wasn't connecting to a CD player. I tried it and bingo. After hours of
surfing the net for a solution it is now solved. So thanks Libor and
Happy New Year. Although I still don't understand why I need to
connect it to the cd player.

Because you plug it into your sound card where you would normally plug an
analogue CD connection in. As most CD's players now use the digital option,
the analogue connection isn't used so the TV card is plugged into it
instead. Unfortunately your PC has no way of knowing that it hasn't got a
CD player plugged into it!
