I'm trying to determine the reason for XP systems apparent leakage of
Resource ram. This occurs after normal use, mostly opening multiple
IE (v6) windows. After a short time, menus and toolbars get
rearranged or corrupted. Windows Task Manager and other monitors for
normal ram usage indicate lots of available memory. (Systems in
question have 1.5GB, so 15 IE windows should not present a problem).
Virus and spyware scans come back negative.
At a certain point, it's not possible to open more windows. That
unfortunately includes Task Manager. Closing one IE window will
usually give back enough ram to open another menu, but some of the
leakage seems permanent.
I can only conclude that for some reason, XP is not recovering ram
that is used specifically for Menus and Toolbars. I remember that
there was a specific bank for this in older versions of windows but I
didn't think XP was limited by this.
Any references of pure speculation is welcome.
