I create a symbolic like as: X:\ for my FILE_DEVICE_DISK device object.

In Win2k, the new drive appears, but in XP that drive does not appear
(although IoCreateSymlink succeeds), why ?

Do you I have to DefineDosDevice() also from user mode in XP's case?
