- OT: net boot VMWare
- Posted by Farooque on November 20th, 2004
Hi,
Apologies for slightly off topic question. But does any one know if it's
possible to netboot VMWare (through DHCP/Bootp servers on some other
machine) ? The bios does not show such options.
Thanks,

No you can't modify VMWare BIOS, but you can boot off a (virtual)
floppy or CD, which will start netboot.
VMWare has their own newsgroups at news://vmware.com

Can you tell me how I can start my own netboot from CD or floppy? Or any
links? Thanks for the newsgroup.

Simple... google for a netboot floppy. DOS drivers for VMWare netcard
are available on Vmware site. Vmware can mount "raw" floppy image as a virtual floppy.
A boot floppy can be converted to "El Torito" bootable CD, then it can be set as
a virtual CD for VMware virtual machine... your creativity is the limit.
