problems installing USB Irda drivers in windows 98se
Posted by Mario on July 8th, 2003

Hello,

SO far I have tried installing 3 different kind of USB Irda adapter
from 3 different manufacturers indifferent hardware PCs all windows
98se upgraded to laterst microsoft.

All the 3 Irda USB isntallationg behave differently.

In particular, there is one that after Install its supplied
isntallation setup when i connect the Irda Adaopter it says inside
device manager unknown device adn there is no way to upgrade to the
right driver.

It just wants a driver under: c:\windows\inf\usb.inf

what is that driver ? why it just wants that one ?

USB stack corrupted ? what does that mean ? how is it fixed ?

Why I cant install my ST Labs USB IRda adapter IRDA-1 followign this
procedure:

Why as many other hardware devices the Irda adapter cant be installed
this way:

Control Panel -> New Hardaware -> next -> next -> No peripheral doesnt
appear in the list -> next -> No -> choose hardware from list -> Infra
Red devices -> next here is a list of manufacturers, why urs isnt
there ?

There is the option get device from disk, why I cant do that ?

If I select the driver for win98 from the st lab cdrom of drivers
under usbirda, when it loads the list of devices available is empty,
this I think is incorrect, this is a problem in st lab drivers, dotn
you think ? at least shoudl appear a list of devices.

This will be a solution for sure if I can load the right stlabs driver
by adding hardware procedure. Why I cant do this ?

There must be a way to go around it and make windows 98 accept the
right supplied drivers of st labs

Please let me know.

Thanks,

Mario
