reboot machine after updating the driver
Posted by Tom on July 11th, 2003

All,

I have developed an Windows XP WDM driver (handling ISA and PCI
cards). Everything is fine except I will have to restart the machine
everytime I update the driver from the Device Manager. (I will always
choose Update
Driver from device manager after adding new stuff for the driver).

Is this normal behaviour? If not, How can I solve this problem.
Please
let me know.

Thanks.

How about providing the necessary information. Show the inf file and some
info about the cards. Mass storage on the PCI bus can require reboots.
Also look in the registry and post that information.

Will Disable work without reboot? If not - then check your REMOVE
paths, maybe there are some bugs in them.

Disable always works fine. Only update driver causing me to reboot?
Any inputs?
