USB driver begin to be not recognized after abnormal shutdown
Posted by SungChun Jun on December 19th, 2003

Hi, All

In my lab, camera imaging system is developed using test board via USB
interface.

The other day, while USB is connected and application program is
idle-running, I accidently power off the camera test board. From that
moment, PC(OS: Windows 2000) started to get into the deadlock state,
so that I did shutdown PC also by reset switch.

Now I reboot PC, but camera test board USB driver is not recognized
anymore. other commercial USB recognition such as USB hard disk
storage device is fine.

The followings are what I have tried to restore USB connection. I have
no success in these tries.
1. control panel - device manager, remove usb root hubs and
controllers, and reboot, but USB driver(inf, sys files) are not
recognized as valid driver files.(safe mode and normal mode tried)
2. upgrade OS with windows XP, still driver is not recognized, but XP
driver fail report message show the correct usb device id of imaging
system.
3. The engineer who developed USB driver also tried to find the cause
of this problem, but he also failed to find the right anwser to this
weird symptom.
4. finally reinstall OS with clean format, camera USB driver is now
recognized.

I wonder if there is any nice solution for this kind problem without
doing clean hard disk format and reinstallation of all the programs.

OS: windows 2000
Processor: Intel Pentium III

Thank you for yor precious adivce.
