Hi Chuck,

Since you're not able to upgrade to SP 2 due to compatibility issues,
try a System Restore or Repair to return your system back to the
state it was in when you were able to run those games. It would
appear that something was updated on your system that is not SP1
compatible and is affecting certain features such as Open GL.

| Still no joy.

Unfortunately, that's not a viable option.
From what I can tell, the issue has been on and off again with various
versions of NVIDIA video cards and drivers.
Digging back in my notes, the last time this occurred on the subject system,
Microsoft had released a "fix" and the fix broke more than it fixed.
Reversion cured that problem, but literally hundreds of patches/updates
have occurred in the interim.
Oh, well, it's time for a new processor and MBD anyway.
(Somewhat aggravating, since the system is faster (for games) than the new
Vista laptop I have.)
(Vista is hauling around too much baggage to ever be a decent game machine.
I guess it needs a games mode that gracefully suspends or shuts down all the
trivia. )
