Hi Maria,

Your system is most likely restarting as a result of a STOP error.

To stop this behavior go to Control Panel / System / Advanced /
Click the Startup and Recovery Settings button / Uncheck the box
labelled "Automatically restart" under the System Failure section.

To analyze the error, try the steps in: http://aumha.org/win5/kbestop.htm

If the error indicates a file name that begins with ati, or nv (nVidia)
the most likely solution would be to install the latest drivers using
the instructions at: http://mvps.org/nibblesnbits/Video.html#drivers

Jimmy

Hi, meesage is c:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt. The system file is not
suitable for runnig MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Chose close or
ignore. Downloaded a new autoexec.nt as advised in an older message and this
allowed me to load Pharoah and worked. Then managed to load Queen of the
Nile although I can't find this now in C drive. Master of Olympus loaded and
starts the game but after couple of minutes the computer restarts and starts
with scandisk

Any help?

Hi Maria,

Rut Roh! There's no STOP error message even after disabling the AutoRestart?

That narrows things down quite a bit.. in fact the most likely culprit
would be your power supply. Sounds like it's not powerful enough.

Hardware issues can cause freezing, black screens and other
errors. Also, your drivers should always be kept up to date.

Try the following steps one at a time to try and resolve the issue.
I hope this helps. Please post back if you have any questions! :-)

1. Update DirectX and your Chipset, Sound, &Video Drivers:
For all Video / DirectX / Game and Hardware Issues, I have a
Checklist of Solutions at: http://NibblesNbitsVideo.tk

2. Dust your fans, vents and components using a 1/4" paintbrush
and a hose vacuum. Use compressed air for hard to reach places.
Set a housefan to blow cold air into your case to expose an over-
heating issue.. If it works add more fans or replace defective ones.
Use this Motherboard Monitor Utility: http://mbm.livewiredev.com

3. A faulty power supply can cause STOP errors, random reboots,
and black screen lockups. One way to test for that is to check the
wattage sticker on your power supply and then calculate your need
http://www.jscustompcs.com/power_supply/ (Min. 350 for gaming)

4. Test your RAM using: http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp

Tip 1: to fix autoexec.nt copy the file from C:\Windows\repair to
C:\Windows\system32, click ok when asked if you want to replace it.

Tip 2: if you want to keep track of your games, the best way is to
create a custom folder in your root (c:\games for instance) and install
your games there. Example c:\games\queen of the nile. Nowadays 99%
percent of games give you the advanced option to choose where to
install. It is surely better than browsing your c:\program files folder.
Especially if the install program puts it first into a sub folder like
Sierra or Activision do

Thomas

Couldn't load anywhere else - just wouldn't let me but doesn't help explain
why disc 1 works perfectly and disc 2 says it has installed and obviuosly
hasn't, Frustration is that when playing expansion missions they don't save
and you have to start again! Zeus is frustrating as although loaded and
saving it causes a reboot after 5 mins play!!
