Booklet software
Posted by Mike Dobony on October 16th, 2003

I am looking at designing a booklet that I want to print up myself on the
computer. I want to be able to simply type up my book and automatically
format for putting together as a book, that is, automatically setting up for
duplex and 4 proper pages on a page, 2 front and 2 back. Are there any such
things out there at a low price, under $100? It will not be a terribly
complicated layout, mostly text and a few graphics. Thanks.

Even MS Publisher costs more than that - about $129, last I looked.

Use your word compiler and use page setup (on mac that is).

On pc - use a word compiler and consult a print shop.

If you use MS Office/Word 97 or later, you can do it for free.

Go on to the net and type in www.officeupdate.com.
You'll be referred to the new site that has a much less memorable URL

In the search engine at the top right of the page, change the drop-down
next to "Search" to Templates and type the word "booklet"

You'll see at least half a dozen booklet and brochure templates.
Save the one you want to use to your computer and type your little
heart out.

Have fun.

Does Word 2002 have a setup for doing books? I have Office 2000 Pro and
just found out that the Catalog under Publisher does books, but does not
allow me to automatically create footnotes. I have to do them manually.

Mike, are you trying to print these yourself?

If so, with InDesign or PageMaker, there are booklet plugins. Check out the
Adobe Studio Exchange at

http://share.studio.adobe.com/

If not, your printer should be able to make a booklet out of your job. You
can output to PDF. You may have to install their printer driver. They can
instruct you. I run newsletters from PDF all the time.
