Complex HTML Mail on a Mac
Posted by CMP on July 17th, 2006

Does anyone know how to send complex html mail using Mail (Tiger
10.4.7)? I'll even settle for OE or Entourage! I'd like to use complex
html as a "signature" or "stationery" - and I used to be able to do
that via Outlook (PC), but my trusty mac apps don't give any sort of
decent option . . .

Thanks in advance!

Cheers!
Connie

Does Thunderbird do any of that?

Thunderbird does it and it works great....just copy and paste the HTML
code (but be sure any images or CSS are saved to a server and are
linked to, not embedded.)

Definitely.

Don't reference them to your local machine (/file://C:/Documents and
Settings/ etc etc). Put them on a web server and link to them there
(http://www.myserver.com/folder/image1.gif instead of
/file://C:/Documents and Settings/me/image1.gif).

I agree. The other thing I hate is page-long sigs full of recycled
quotes. ;-)

But in all honesty, HTML e-mail is the plague of my existence and I
strip it down to text whenever humanly possible. I also believe that
e-mail should follow a few simple plain text rules: don't exceed 80
columns of width, preceed your signature with two hyphens followed by a
space (which Thunderbird will do for you if you supply a signature file,
and which is the e-mail standard that is really no longer followed since
the advent of standards-destroying clients such as Outlook), bottom-post
in froups and lists (some people like the top-post business but I think
it destroys the continuity), and QUOTE WITH GREATER-THAN SYMBOLS. Most
clients will grudgingly handle different quote characters like vertical
pipes or what have you, but the standard is greater than symbols. One
for each level of quoting. Is that so hard?

I also absolutely hate it when people feel they need to add their own
ridiculous delimiter between what was said previously and what they are
adding. THE QUOTE CHARACTERS ALREADY MAKE THIS DISTINCTION. You don't
need to go like this:
------------------------
I totally agree with you, adding your own delimiters makes you look like
an illiterate newbie.

Also, booze froup specifically, it is polite to add a comment or
notation, typically between square brackets, when you cut out huge
sections of other people's posts in the middle. Something like

or even

would work. That is all. I know I'm a purist, and I don't usually rant
about it, but you caught me on a unique Friday morning and it seemed
relevant to the discussion.

To answer the OP, just don't. Seriously.
