Disign costs..
Posted by Michael Lawford on September 9th, 2004

Hi Guys - here is a comparitive something...

We recently did a header image for a guys site. It is the image at the top
of the page http://www.institutefc.com, for those who want to have a look.

My question - how much would you guys be charging for this graphic in your
respective countries? It is always a good few hours work to do them.....

Thanks,
~m

A good few hours times my hourly rate. $300-$400 AUD most likely.

work out not only how much time youve taken to do the work, but also how
much time you need to administrate the job, getting to meetings, writing
quotes and correspondence.

we charge £50 per hour across the board.

Few = 3-4 hours in my books.

It's not unusual to charge $100/hr or more, if you're experienced in the
field. However, clients may not see the actual working rate, rather quoted
for the job.

But it would be erroneous to assume the "worker" (even if you're
self-employed) receives $100/hr... there are expenses to cover, equipment,
non-billable hours, etc.

Quote "However, clients may not see the actual working rate, rather quoted

Therefore why would they query my hourly rate if they only see the job cost?

The only service I do quote per hour is photography, and $100phr is the
standard rate so there are no questions asked there.

cos they may ask how long it would take or would have some prior
understanding that it's a small job. And in their thinking small job =
small price, so i'm wondering if they consider $100 pr/hr an acceptable
charge.

i'll ask it in another way. do people query your charges or just accept them?

Posted by lime on September 10th, 2004

Ok. They don't query my costs. Saying that though, of the few jobs I've
lost, I assume I lost through price as they never respond to my follow ups!
Hope that makes more sense to your question.

Yes well I know how much I charged - did the header banner for the GBP80 but
I feel that we should increase that a little and just wanted to know how our
rates here in South Africa compare. So so far we have $400 AUD vs my GBP
80 - no wonder the client is loving us...

That $400 AUD is for approx 4 hours work - however the banner you showed as
a sample may take me about 2 hours therefore my charge would be $200 AUD (so
I'm not sure how that rate would compare to your GBP 80?)
