- FASHION BOOK V.2
- Posted by SHANE on July 7th, 2004
Hi Guys / Girls and those that fit in that group.
thanks too lime & woodside for the feed back............ sorry I only have a
little brain and seems I cant talk on the phone and type at the same time.
I've been asked to do a fashion book, for a very cool fashion house in
Melbourne Australia.
This is what I'm thinking about doing, let me know what you think, and if
you have any ideas ....... that would also be great...
its going to be very edgy and very funky.
we will be using line art, stencil art, photos. illustrations ect.
we will be printing on PVC sheets, paper, card and cloth.
what I'm asking is what do you think of the stocks that I want to print on.
what do you think about the style of art. eg stencil, layered photos with
illustrations over them?
once I start the book I will post some links to get more feed back.

we will be using hammers, nails and glue
we will be building with concrete and wood
what do you think of the materials i will be using?
what do u think about the style of my house?
once the house is built i'll post some links for more feedback.

about having this opportunity, so I don't blame you.
You need to present some rough sketches and to clarify your ideas, and don't
forget to talk to a printer... he's got the real expertise to ensure you're
not going over budget... because you have a budget, isn't it? So never, EVER
go overboard. If you wanna be there to stay, you've gotta prove you're on
top of all things.
Be careful about what you present to the public, though... I don't think
your client will be happy to find out you're "leaking" their designs.
Good luck with this assignment. If you play your cards right, fashion and
advertising could become a very lucrative field.
Break a leg!
Yours truly,

Thanks your helpful feed back unlike WOODSIDE'S bitch session..............
Yes I have met with the client and his designer. we are all on the same page
as to where this product is going. Budget is not an issue. We don't have
one. His after a look "fu#ken out their look" his words
l met with the client today showed a few ideas, loved them all. about their
designs this is a book showing their past 2 years. nothing new for other
fashion houses to take.
I think my first email was lost with Woodside I'll I wanted was feed back on
ideas. or if he had any that he had floating around his little bitchy brain!
No need to be so harsh and rude.

Shane - he simply rephrased what you are asking so that you had a good
chance at seeing your words as he read them. Now you are attacking him. He
made a good point and your attitude towards him will discourage others from
helping you.
I am still unclear what you need because you were not clear, but if I
critisize you, you will be mean. So, I am dropping the thread.

I don't think Woodsie's building will be edgy or funky - concrete and wood
are so YESTERDAY

I think that you need a budget - AND a specification!
Without a budget there is nothing to stop things getting out of control.
Without a specification there is nothing to tell the customer that the job
is finished - and you go on and on with miniscule changes forever!.
If the customer is not too worried then his version of the budget can be
relatively informal - for $$$$$ he will get nnn superbly bound copies of the
most fantastic funky book made out of exotic materials.
For you, the budget should be much tighter, estimating your time (cost) for
design work, time (cost) for liasing with printers and suppliers and the
actual costs of printing on the edgy stuff and so on. With this backbone you
are then in a position to make decisions - e.g. your time is going over so
can you get the printing costs down? and if not you can warn your customer.
The customer sounds generous so you can leave plenty of contingency - but
don't overblow it as coming in well below budget can be as embarrassing as
overspend (he was going to rip me off - luckily I spotted that!).
The last thing you want is for the customer to say, late in the day, "Oh -
thats more than I expected and I've just blown all my cash on a fleet of
Mercedes SLKs for my employees", leaving you with nothing. Can happen, even
(especially) if the customer is a best mate.
Good luck
Mike

cashed a deposit? If you didn't, my guess is that you'll be taken advantage
of. You heard it from an old fox, so to speak.
it easy...
Is it a dialect from where you come from? Australia is a big country; my
guess is that not everybody understands everybody there, am I right?
Show us your stuff; I'm interested in seeing your work.

I think it sounds fantastic and I can't wait to see it too. When will it be
launched?
PS: Just check with the printers about the selected printing mediums to be
sure.

LOL. Shane's mix of laziness, bad grammar and originality would
understandably make it hard for many to read!
'on the same page' means they are all going in the 'same direction' or have
the same thoughts on where the project is heading.
He's after a look that's "fu#ken out there look', his words (not mine)
He's after a 'way out' look... you know Pepe?
LOL
