I need your advice :)

Hi,

I just retouched the website that'll be launched early 2004 for a webhosting
company. I would appreciate if you could have a look at it - some of you
guys already know the name, and will see that it has nothing to do with the
previous website
Please kindly note that none of the links work - just one page.
Access the beta version website here: http://www.abahia.com/auriance
Thanks for all your critics and suggestions,

Charles.

Was it necessary to make the tables highlight on mouseover?

I liked that... it meant it was easier to read what's inside the box

Right, I decided to do this because it makes the website more interactive:
you just have to put your mouse over the content, and the browser tells you
exactly where you are and what you have to read, highlighting the tables in
orange. Just a matter of taste
Thanks for your opinion.

Ooooo....I didn't even notice that. That's fun!

Using OE on a Mac you have some of the text piled on top of another one of
your little boxes. Text on text does not read so well.

Not a very good first impression of "excellence".

charles, *much* better! Although it would be nice if the text was
resizeable - i.e., don't fix the size in points or pixels, but let the end
user the ability to resize by using percentages or ems.

Love the highlighting tables Charles

Just a tiny issue, in Mozilla 1.5 (OS X) when I move the mouse pointer
into the search text box and make it highlight, it expands and pushes
the left table line to the left. Perhaps that column needs a few more
pixels in the width.

Wonderful job on the site, Congratulations ...

Hi Farlo!

Thanks a lot for your comment
Actually I didn't even notice how big this mistake was. One should *always*
design from a customer's standpoint!
Please have a look again, I've made the overall letter bigger, and it's a
lot better as you'll find
Thanks again! Critics should always be the way you do

Hi Hunter,

Thank you very much for your comment. Please have a look again, I made the
overall font size bigger, and it is more readable.
I chose a fixed size because otherwise it creates a real mess with
tables...But user still can choose View > Text Zoom > 150% for instance.
Anyway, you may like it now My monitor has a 1600 x 1200 res. and it must
look huge on a 800 x 600 I guess...

Hi Rastin!

Thank you very much for your time and consideration.
That's odd this happens on Mac OS X
I put a fixed height and width of the surrounding table and set it to the
maximum. Please have a look, it shouldn't happen anymore.
Thanks again,

Text Zoom STINKS for sight-disabled people. Use a % or ems, as Hunter
suggested. Someone who needs help seeing isn't going to give a rat's ass
about your pretty tables.....but they WILL care if they can't read the
information.

Hi Carol, I actually tried the ems and % but I didn't see any difference in
the browser. I guess I don't know how to use these units of measurement. I
use Dreamweaver, and there are several options. I always use px, but this
time I tried what you advised. How can a visitor then see the letter bigger?
I switched the size from 11 to 12, and it seems quite big for me! (I use a
1600 x 1200 19' monitor). However people seem to still find it small... I'm
stuck...

I don't understand, it looks so big on my screen...
I use a 19' monitor with a 1600 x 1200 res.
Are you sure you refreshed the page (the .css has to be reloaded)?
By the way, TinyText(tm) is commonly used by companies that have all the
money to hire the best designers of the world
- http://www.microsoft.com
- etc...
But I think medium-sized text is better from a customer-oriented and
marketing standpoint.

YOU aren't going to see a difference, but the person who needs to change the
text size will be able to see the difference -- and isn't that what
matters?? If you're really interested in creating an accessible site as far
as text goes, you won't worry about px at all.
