Logo Opinions Anyone?
Posted by STI Corp. on March 12th, 2008

Hi All,

I'm no artist by any means so I'd appreciate some expert opinions on whether
this proposed logo is any good. I'm trying to keep it simple and
professional, preferably without any graphic image. Should I change the
font, or center all the text, or change the line or do anything else?

Thanks,

George

It is simple but not professional. Looks like hundreds of others from
the late 70s and early 80s. I don't know what "Location Technology" is
so I don't know how to tell you to improve it. I suggest you take out
the line then try about 30 different font variations. Also try
different type case options. Rearange the elements, remove elements,
duplicate elements, alter elements etc. Then ideas will start coming
to you and certain ideas will make sense and you will have something
to build upon.
Best of luck with it

Along with the previous excellent suggestions let me advise you to
tighten up your letter spacing (kerning), knock the TM down to regular
and not bold, move your red line to the right so the left edge forms a
vertical with the S & A. Definitely explore you options as graphicjack
suggests.

I would kern the letter of the top line closer together so it looks
tighter and not so spread apart. Maybe try a different font like
Eurostile or Helvetica or Univers.

Before I read the other responses I thought I like it. It's plain and
simple, and does the job (but I don't know if you need the tm on it like
that)

After reading what the others said, I see their point.

I once made a logo and used a line like that (thinking that's what one
does) and asked a young person, who had gone to college and studied graphic
arts, etc. and he said "take out the line".

I also tried it with various fonts to see what looked good. LIke clear
straight font on top, and smaller, more scripty (and lighter color, like
grey) on the bottom.

Logos can be tricky. One I think of that I've noticed and really seems to
fit is the green (for money) sqare for H&R Block. The square- block.

I'd really like to be smart and think of things like that. I don't do
logos much, only occasionally, for my webpages or if someone ask me to make
business cards or make them one for a webpage. It's good to relate something
in them TO what they are/about, but to do it in a slightly different way.

It's kinda plain and boring I think...I hope you didn't actually pay
money for it. In my opinion if you can make your logo in a text
editor like MS Word then it's probably not worth paying for.

That said, I'd do something like this:

http://www.backwater-productions.net...ogo_Idea_2.png
http://www.backwater-productions.net...ogo_Idea_3.png

Not necessarily a graphic, rather using the letters themselves to
convey a visual idea, in this case a link. The line between it and
the gray text also help convey the idea of safety, not only the color,
but how it's presented like a barrier.
