- Opinions on logo please
- Posted by Deco_time on November 19th, 2003
Hi,
Odysea is a new company specializing on producing and distributing video
with an underwater theme. Here's the logo I dreamed up for it:
http://www3.sympatico.ca/mlb01/odysea.htm
Please feel free to critisize at will as I have no experience doing that
sort of thing and would benefit greatly from the opinions of
professional.
The logo will be animated in the intro scene of most video, and had to
be billingual (French/English).
Thank's in advance.

How much are you willing to pay for that professional advice?

good first try but you have a long way to go...
a suggestion i have it so make the logo identifyable in black and white at
72 pixels high (about an inch high on the computer screen)
once this works then you can start enhancing it..
i think the O in the text looks out of place, the text on an arc is hard to
see and the colours are very safe...
why notvisit the logo archive on coolhomepages.com and view how other people
think about logo design.

Personally I don't ever like seeing text wrapped around a graphic and
calling that a logo, or different words sharing letters. It's like calling a
graphic design company "Creations by Design": Not very creative.
Try different font treatments; try different colors. Do you want a mellow,
professional, calm dependable blue or more hunger inducing heart pumping
reds, for example? It depends on what the feel of your client's company is.

You should really hire someone to do the logo for you. You really don't
have any talent for this.

Boy, Nathaniel - way to crush someone's spirit, in one fell swoop!
Someone told me I "just wasn't a designer" once.... and before you advise me
that I should have been more thick-skinned, it was the female co-owner of an
industry leading Furniture designer/maker. Her opinion had tremendous impact
on me and it really crushed my spirit. I admit it was at a tumultuous time
in my life, with a failing marriage and a confused outlook, but I was
working on the issues. Support was what I needed even if wrapped in some
stern words.
The first part of your statement might be fair, but aren't we all learning
and working to develop what we HAVE into what can be? Guidance from those
with greater expertise/insight is invaluable. Critical appraisal of our
work, coupled with ideas as to how we can improve is what I believe we
participate in this group for.
We invest a lot in our work, with greatly variable outcomes - and we come
here to learn and receive support, even when in the form of critique. I feel
certain we are all guilty of being "blind" in important areas of our design
abilities at times in our career journeys but please, take real care when
passing judgement. I say this as someone who has been on the receiving end,
though am certainly guilty of it in the past as well.

A newsgroup is not a classroom, it is not a school. You asked for opinions,
you got one. You decide on the value of that opinion.
You did not pay me to help you develop your skills so that you could be all
that you can be. Go join the Army, that is their slogan.
