OT: Winter up here
Posted by BFM on January 28th, 2004

Well, winter has finally hit in the Canadian prairies.

Last night it was -45 C (-49 F), with the windchill -59 C (-74.2 F). It was
cold enough that hot water instantly turned into ice-crystals when chucked
up in the air. It was pretty neat.

Anybody else feeling the cold?

Ryan

Nice to know it isn't just US plow drivers who do that. I swear they wait
around the corner for you to finish and go inside.

Heh, did anyone happen to see the footage of the snowplow knocking over that
man? He was standing in the street shoveling when a plow came by, the snow
from the plow shooting over knocked him over, then he got up, brushed
himself off and a few seconds later came the second truck (usually run 2,
one runs closer to the street than the first) the second plow itself just
missed his body and buried him again.

I SAW THAT!!! I think they said it was some guy from Ohio... that was a
pretty close call there...

Got an SMS last night (read: middle of bloody night) from people in England.
They've got *heavy* snow, and it hasn't snowed there for 7 years! Woo!

Meanwhile in Australia, it rained heaps yesterday, this morning is a bit
chilly but nothing too bad. Bad enough for the middle of summer though ;o)

7 Years? Are you serious? This time last year 90% of Britain was at a stand
still due to the snow. The higways agency weren't prepared and all motors
were blocked.

This year they're much more prepared (didn't stop me nearly side swiping a
40ton truck on the black ice tonight though)

Why not wait UNTIL the plow passes....?
A former employer used to say: "Never do anything until it's too late. That
way you'll never have to re-do anything." ; D

Going by the info given to me.... hmmm, must check up on that.

Doh!

That was *real* close, can you imagine what would have happend if that plow
actually got him, he got real lucky. (although I bet his shoes were packed
pretty well of snow : ) )

I've only had my licence back 2 days. IThe lorry was blocking my side of the
road with his hazard lights on, I went on to the other side of the road to
pass and the other side was clear. THEN some c*ck comes round a corner,
pedal to the floor and came straight towards me, no slowing no nothing! Only
choice was to hit the brakes which isn't the best thing on sheet ice. Oh
well, that's britains drivers for you!

Quite abit of snow here in Edinburgh today. Now it's all frozen and it's
lethal out there. We took some pictures in the city centre today, which I
will post tomorrow.

I'm on top of a huge hill looking over my town and the snow up here was
amazing today. My new home office window overlooks my street and can see
quite a lot of the town and it was actually a pleasure to work in here
today.

The snow managed to get upto about 3/4 a foot on my driveway. No doubt
you'll have had much worse up there.

I'm setting off to snowdonia on friday morning for the weekend so hoping for
a bit better weather then!

Worst driving I ever saw was in Benidorm spain. This was with EVERY DRIVER!

They would park there cars in a space no more than 2 inches longer than
there car. Almost every bumper you looked at was dinted, scratched or
missing.

Carefully I'll rotate the images that are on our commercial server; the
really large images will come off our cable here at our home studio... I get
slammed for bandwidth charges if I go over 15gb per month out there in on
the net.

We started work on a new version of our commerical site today... it's
looking sexy now
