With second part of your question though, there are lots of reasons for not
running directly from PDF files. To give you an example, in my case we
produce roll-to-roll labels. Most files given to us come complete with
registration and printers marks. As there is only a 3mm gap between the
labels, these marks would print on to the labels. We have to edit these
files and add printers marks along with bearers in the appropriate position.
We *also* have digital roll-to-roll printers and page size is critical, so
here we can't run from PDF (although I am well aware you're running to a
seps printer) unless the page size in the printer, on the computer and
materially match exactly.
