Photoshop not opening EPS files correctly
Posted by James U. on April 11th, 2005

I've got a weird problem and I'm not sure how to fix it - any help would be
appreciated.

I'm running Photoshop 7 and Illustrator 10. I create an EPS drawing in
Illustrator and open it in Photoshop, at which point it *normally* asks what
size it should open the file, DPI, anti-alias or no, etc. But something has
changed to where now it just opens the file and it's really grainy-looking;
no options or anything.

Does anyone know how to "fix" this?

I have it on "All formats" and it doesn't change when I select it. The files
all show up when I have any type of EPS selected in "Files of type". Also, I
have opened them successfully (and correctly) on other machines running
Photoshop, so I'm pretty sure it isn't the file itself.

"James U." <none@NOSPAM.com> did so declare
(news:EIv6e.167$od4.116@newssvr31.news.prodigy.com ) :

James,

I think it may be showing you the EPS preview, not the actual EPS.

There are a few things you can do to solve this, first it may be a
versioning conflict so open the file in AI and save it to an EPS file in
version 7 format. Your older copy of Photoshop may handle this better.

If that doesn't work, try exporting the graphic from AI several times
larger than you need it, in TIFF format. This solution won't work if you
need the transparencies in place but should give you a usable image
otherwise.
