Have you played with InDesign at all? I have found that it is much
easier to do things than Quark. Hehe, I know the real hardcore print
people stick by Quark, but I have noticed quite a few switching over
to InDesign. I always figure it is best to keep things in the same
family for interoperability sake. You should give it a try if you
haven't played with it yet. It works like Illustrator for page
layout. pretty savvy.

Although I haven't worked on any print pieces over 10 pages yet, so I
dont have any knowledge of how it works with bigger layouts like a
book or something... although I hopefully will be doing one here
soon. Mine has been on hold for a year and a half... just need the
time. :-\

Yah I definitely couldnt afford all the stuff I work with. any one of
these progs would break my bank. Everything is so expensive. Its
funny. the new Final Cut Pro Studio bundle is like 1600. I was like
wow!!! only 1600. I'm gonna get that. Then I sadly realize... Im in
no position to make any of those purchases. Come on already tax
refund! I need you!... hehe.

Then again, I live 10 minutes from work, and Im allowed to stay
however long I want... so ehh... I can manage not using a home PC for
my design stuff.

Add to that the fact that my old puter won't nearly run the new apps

350MHz. Just a matter of time till I'm out of business entirely.

Im doing animation an all that... I know some guys who throw

anything they are throwing out. They gave me 2 monitors and 2 battery
backups the last time.

Have you seen the prices on pc laptops or even dells? If you get a
small business account with Dell, there are sometimes some crazy
deals. They got a pretty solid machine for only $400... bout 3 times
better than mine... :-\

That was a special deal when they got that, so if you watch the page
every day, you may pick up a nice deal.

PCs on here as low as $309.... without monitor. I dont know what your
price range is... I'll keep an eye out for you though.

My a friend of my son need some new equipment and found out about some
student deals through the local CC. Signed for for a continuing ed class.
Scored the equipment and withdrew (lost his cources and class fees but the
net was well worth the trouble)

The above is worth some real thought...

And Inez,

See if there is a freecycle network in your area, get an email account
with yahoo, join up and post a request for something better than what
you're using. Somebody's doorstop may be your salvation.

You might want to check with local universities and colleges. They
sometimes sell off used equipment at reasonable cost.

FWIW I bought 2 1Ghz p3s (512 megabyte, 40 gig hd) for $75 Canadian
about 2 months ago and 1 P4 1.6, 256 (megabytes, 40 gig hd) for $125
from our local university.

Last Saturday at a yard sale,, I picked up a really limited Compaq IPAQ
733, for $25 (shoulda offered less ...but I'll put in a bigger drive and
maybe use it for internet in the basement or give it to a friend's
daughter as a gift.)

And then there may be a local USENET forsale newsgroup you could
frequent to get a picture of what people in your area want for used
equipment. Watch long enough and you'll get a good sense of who's honest
and fair.

Thank you, though. I've been trying to get my hubby to upgrade his PC
equipment for web stuff. Not happening right now.

No just a student or teacher status. My DIL ran a preschool and qualified.
Interesting her being the 'director/owner' she had to sign her own
verification.

The suppliers said that was ok.

Heck, INEZ's school of deceptive practices might qualify for all I know.
(based on that you could get elected to public office.)

All that is required is a student ID.

You may also keep an eye out at: Apple>Store>Refurbished in the left
hand column near the bottom.

Also keep your other eye out here: http://www.powermax.com/ I've got my
eye on those 17" MacBooks for $1k. We're going to be spending more time
this summer in Maine than in the past and I'd love to have one. Save up!

haha... no argument here! Im looking to make the switch... Once I get
some coins in the piggy, Im going to break him in exchange for
hopefully a macbook pro. Leopard's release date should give me enough

I just need a laptop soooo bad... and it is rough to look over at all
my friends with their PC laptops for prices as low as $600. And I
shake my head... good thing come to those who wait I suppose.

Lower your prices Apple! ... for me.
