Why not Adobe CS3?
Posted by Dwij on May 20th, 2007

Hey guys,

Just wondering, what will be your reason not to buy Adobe CS3 now -
are you exploring other competing products? Thanks!

Too expensive?

print side. Photoshop, Illy, InDesign and Acrobat Pro are a great
publishing suite.

I'm less impressed with the bundle for web publishing. You either get
the Photoshop extended (premium) or no Photoshop at all (standard). No
Acrobat Pro in the standard version, and yet pdf's have become a fairly
important way of presenting some things on the web. I don't use
Contribute, and don't really like Contribute, but you get that in both
standard and premium.

We get an education discount, so the cost is better than reasonable.

There really are no competing products unless you don't ever have to
work with anyone else.

Quark has fallen way behind InDesign but still works and Corel certainly
makes decent products (Windows only though for CorelDRAW and PhotoPaint)
so if you're a one man/woman operation the only Adobe product you'd need
is Acrobat.

There seems to be quite a revolt in Europe and Australia over pricing,
but sales are still likely to be very strong with CS3 being the first
version of all of these products to be Universal on Mac and fully
supported under Vista.

I'd like to make folks aware that you can get a half-decent upgrade
price if you owned a form of macromedia studio. I found this out when I
was momentarily deluded into thinking I'd be able to upgrade my
equipment and software recently. About $600/USD upgrade price for CS3
Design Premium.

But, I had fully intended to upgrade my Quark as well

Is there a spread sheet comparisons with the various features and left out's
shown?

We're in no hurry as we've decided to take the low road for the summer and
be very picky on what (if any) new projects we accept until the fall.

Adobe makes it clear as mud what each version contains, but Amazon
provides a very nice comparison chart.

It is on this page a little more than half way down

Look it is just too much for me, if it was my job I would get taxdeductions
etc
if I purchased it, but it is not, and I just can`t afford it.
And I think a lot of people can`t, and they probably use a cracked version.
I won`t, but I will also not buy it, so they make no money of me.
Too bad for them, too bad for me.

But thanks for the tip, I might look into that.

Oh yeah, I mightbe able to buy it, if I ever win some logo competitions.
But I will not hold my breath for I would surely suffocate. ;o)
