This year's flying horses
Posted by Fred Doyle on May 13th, 2007

I've been posting shots from the St. Clements Horse Show in this forum
for a couple of years now. I've always approached the subject with the
intent to freeze these flying horses, and I've been pretty happy with
the results. This year, I did the same thing, but I also tried taking
shots where I dropped the shutter speed and panned with the action to
get a more expressive shot giving more a feel of the speed and power of
these amazing animals. I'd be interested in your impressions on each
technique.

I also walked over to the stable area and got a couple of shots there

I like 8 and 9 best. I like the ones with more movement and I like 9 because
it shows mulish character.

As far as the movement goes, the reactions all over the board on that issue,
some liking more, some less and some none. I can't say there was a consensus
on that.

The mule was just great. Two stable hands saw me taking pictures and pointed
him out to me saying they thought I should take shots of him. He was a riot
and quite the ham for the camera.
