- Anybody still use the Jornada 820?
- Posted by Steve on June 26th, 2004
Hi, Guys,
I ask that question in the title because I just got my hands on one
for the first time.
I got it mainly for typing stuff but I'm curious to know if there have
been any developments over the years that will allow the use of a
floppy drive with it.
My camera uses floppy disks as a storage medium and it would be handy
to be able to display pix on the Jornada straight from the camera
instead of putting the floppy in my main PC, copying the pix to a CF
card and then putting the CF card in the Jornada.
Cheers,
Steve

Bob G,,,, Thank you very much for your informative post.
However, you have confused me a little.
Which of the following do you mean when you say "Forget it".....
1...Forget the Jornada 820.
2...Forget the idea of getting a floppy drive for it.
3...Forget the idea of showing pix of it.

Number two, sorry I wasn't more explicit.
The 820 is a wonderful machine, don't get me wrong.
I believe you can install image software on the 820, but you'd have to transfer
picture files via a memory card, or from your PC, or via infrared. No floppy
drive is available for it, that I know of, or for any other PDA, for that
matter.

There are drivers for USB floppy drives - and they work with an NEC
MobilePro. Don't know if they'll work with a Jornada, though.

Just a quick Google for "windows ce usb floppy driver"

Curious - I visited those web sites and found Windows CE drivers listed for
download.
However, all I can see from the the pictures of the floppy drive shown is a USB
cable and I don't know that the Mobilepro has a USB port.
So...?

The 800 and 880 both have USB. I believe the 780 and 790 both did, but I'm
not sure about those two models.

Well, I've taken the plunge and bought a USB floppy drive and
downloaded the driver from the links.
I'll let you know if it works when the drive gets delivered.

Good day,
Yes, it is possible. I both own a J820 and a USB floppy drive and I can
successfully read and write (and format) the floppy disk with the J820
with the drivers installed.
If you can't find the drivers, I can e-mail you the drivers directly.
Best regards,

Hi, Michael,
I have sent you an e-mail, after removing the obvious, but justin case
you don't get it, I asked if the driver was generic or relating to a
specific FDD.
If it was for a specific FDD, which one.
I'd be grateful for the driver in any case to give it a go.
Cheers,

Hi Michael, Thanks for sending the driver file but sadly, it didn't do
the trick.
I got as far as sending all the files to the temp folder but when I
tried to install them my *820 (believe it or not) said "Oh shit" and
threw up an error message that the .dll file could not be accessed.
I guess I'll just learn to live with swapping over the Compact Flash
card, lol
Cheers,
Steve
