Bring Back the HP 15C
Posted by Chris W on June 3rd, 2004

I have been working on an effort to get HP to start making the 15C
again. To this end I have set up a web site with a petition. If you
are like me, and would love to have a 15C again. Please take a moment
to go to my web site and sign the petition. I have been in contact with
a member of the calculator planning department at HP who is sympathetic
to the cause and will argue the case to those who make the decisions,
however I need to get a lot more signatures on my petition so tell
everyone you know how great of a calculator the 15C is and ask them to
sign the petition too.

I got my 15C when I was engineering for Pacific NW Bell. Mid 80's? I'm
retired now and still have my 15C on the same batteries since 1987. Great
calculator but don't have the need for it I once did. 'Been doing RPN for
so long I goof often on the other way (?).

You are correct, it's a great calculator.

I still use mine bought in 1985 or 86 for DEM 269,- (approx. 140,-€)
as the primary pocket calculator. I remember having replaced the
batteries only once or twice. But anyway, I support that project!

What I have rarely used are the Matrix and Integral functions and
programming.

The HP12C is still on sale
(http://www.hp.com/calculators/financial/index.html) - I think now for
more than 20 years! Do you know any other electronic product having
such a long lifecycle?

Hmm. Nice calculator ... but then there are a lot of good scientific
calculators.

Now if it were the HP16C (the programmers' calculator) that you
wanted to bring back I would support you like a shot. The 16C is far
and away the best device of its type ever produced, and although mine
is still working fine after almost 20 years I'd probably buy a spare,
just in case, if it were to be rereleased.

Cheers,
Daniel.
