ePocrates has released a version of Rx Pro for the Windows Mobile OS PDAs.
We have encountered multiple problems in a setting in which the host PC is
running Windows Server 2003 and the PDA is a Toshiba e800 running Windows
Mobile 2003.
Software installs OK on the PC, but Synchronization fails with program
install on the PDA. Rx Pro choice is not
displayed as an install choice - it is grayed out.
We did the PDA install by copying the ARM .CAB file to the PDA and then
executed this file. The program then ran properly on the PDA.
Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be any way to make Rx Pro run from CF
or
SD media. We cannot leave the program in main memory because there isn't
room for all the required programs.
Finally, the program wants to make a Bluetooth connection even on a "warm
start" of the PDA. We had to disable Bluetooth to prevent an endless program
loop.
ePocrates technical support seems to be non-existent. A lengthy session of
"press this and then press that" never resulted in access to a human. An
e-mail to customer service has not been answered as yet.
I would rate the software itself as so-so. A major deficiency is lack of
prescription writing capability. Bluefish does integrate their prescription
writer with ePocrates, but only for the Palm OS platform.
Overall, the PDR software is better and, unlike ePocrates, it is available
at no charge to the users.
