- How about a handheld PC instead.......

This is a new product being designed by norhtec - not yet available so
its possible it will just turn out to be vapourware.... *but*
Its a palm sized PC based on x86 technology..... using the the VIA
technology chipset (PC in a chip). The processor they are working on
is a 233mhz one (the VIA chipset has models up to 933 mhz I believe)
and the unit has a built in screen (but keys rather than touchscreen I
think).
What does this mean ? Well, its a handheld PC that will run Windows
*rather* than being a PDA - it would be fully compatible with desktop
software... because basically its a handheld size PC........ They even
propose to put a harddrive in it......
Is this the future direction of handhelds.......
possibly...............
(The company chairman is a linux fan as well :-)

If that mockup is accurate, then based on the size of the ports on the
side you're looking at something about 2cm wider, 3cm longer, and almost
1cm thicker than a Clie NX.
It looks pretty neat, but it's not quite a pocket device.
