I want to get a cheap, used handheld for surfing and email only via wi-fi
Posted by geermeister@gmail.com on May 5th, 2006

I don't plan to sync it with my PC. I plan to use whatever e-mail and
web surfing client it has to check email at Wi-Fi hotspots (and leave
messages on the server, and clear all downloaded messages on closing)
and surf the net.

What is the best deal on a used handheld to do this that is not too big
and bulky?

Is it possible to connect directly to the Internet at Wi-Fi hotspots
using just an HP Jornada 680 with windows CE 2.11 (actually says its
2.2) and a compatible Wi-Fi PC Card and drivers?

Yep. But good luck using the old versions of the apps for
reading email or surfing.

If you load netbsd onto the Jornada 680, you can read and
send email (imap) using Pine.

I don't know if the CE app that comes with the Jornada
has imap support.
