- Multiple bluetooth device communication question
- Posted by Chang Liu on July 1st, 2003
I am new for bluetooth technology. I want to know is it possible to
use one one integrated bluetooth pocket pc (like ipaq) to communicate
with one bluetooth enabled mobile phone for web browsering and connect
to a bluetooth GPS for location data at the same time?

Completely possible. I do it all the time. Although part of the phones don't
implement this, handling multiple connections is a part of the Bluetooth
Standard.

Based on what you said, I only need to make sure the PDA CF card can
support multi-connection function (I am working on a pocket PC
application and trying to connect two bluetooth enabled devices -
cellular modem and GPS at same time), whether cellular phone or GPS
device support multi-connection really DOES NOT MATTER, is that right?
So how do I know which bluetooth provider has implemented this
feature? I am interesting in PDA CF card, something from BELKIN ,
SOCKET COMMUNICATIONS
or AMBICOM.
Thanks

It is right as long as you are using different com: ports for each exit. You
will not be able to dial a phone call while using GPRS, this will usually
stop gprs for the time that you are talking. But as long as the ports are
different (Bluetooth_Phone and GPS, or such), there will be no problem at
all.
Surely it depends on the drivers. But all branded cards that I know work
like this.

Just another related question here ! Has someone tried this :
1. Take 3 or more bluetooth enabled devices and pair each one with each
other.
2. Space them so that each one can only see its neighbors (in a strait line)
more or less 7m-8m apart.
Like this : Device1<--- ~7m --->Device2<--- ~7m--->Device3 . . .etc.
3. Now try to send a file between the 2 furthest apart .(I am using 4
devices therefore the distance in my case is about 30m!)
Are you surprised ! ! ! Well I could not believe it neither ! Can some one
explain how is this possible ? ? ?
Greetings from SA
